Is there any medicine that can prevent brain aging?

A recent study by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) may have found a very effective way to increase the longevity of humans and improve the quality of life of older people.

Published last Wednesday (22) in the Journal of Neuroscience, the research reveals the discovery of a drug that can perfectly mimic the effects that calorie restriction has on the human brain - the increase in enzymes capable of delaying cognitive deterioration and Nerve cell loss, two factors closely linked to aging.

The study was performed primarily on laboratory rats; Scientists have restricted calorie intake in some specimens and found that they performed better on cognitive tests compared to normally fed specimens, and showed a smaller decline in brain function over time.

In followers, the same researchers regularly fed another group of mice, but offering them the manufactured drug. These animals were also superior in various tests, as well as those that were subjected to strict restrictions.

And in practice?

The study presented by MIT scientists is the only one to clearly demonstrate the relationship between caloric restriction and neuronal degeneration, and is the first to demonstrate a synthetic molecule capable of replacing this restriction without apparent side effects. If tested on humans, the pill could become an effective remedy to fight Alzheimer's disease or simply improve cognitive functions in the brains of older people.

According to Li-Huei Tsai, one of the study's authors, "there is still a long way to really prevent neurodegeneration, " but research shows that it can at least be delayed for some precious years.
