Pixel Extinction: Meet Endangered Animals
Climate change is a problem known to everyone: it is in the newspapers, on TV, on the internet, on the radio, on social networks ... Everywhere. Global warming is a matter we cannot escape. While we human beings are endowed with rationality and devices to circumvent the challenges that have arisen from these changes, animals are not. For this reason, they are the ones who have suffered most from the issue of global warming. No wonder, with each passing day, we learn of another species that is endangered on the planet.
In 2008, the non-governmental organization World Wildlife Fund created an awareness campaign on this theme called "WWF Japan - Pixel Population" in partnership with Tokyo's Hakudo C&D agency. Behind the ingenious idea were creative directors Nami Hoshino, Yoshiyuki Mikami and designer Kazuhiro Mochizuki.
This campaign was recently revived through a Reddit post on the social network that went viral. Inspired by the work done, user Imgurian JJSmooth44 started a new project using the Animal Planet extinction list, which has become as impactful as WWF. "I did it as a programming challenge, " said JJSmooth44 . “I did it in python, but the code is very rude. So I just worried about the end product and not readability, "he finished.
