Ice melts in Arctic and new islands discovered in Russia

Global warming continues to bring about various geological changes around the world. Recently, in an official statement issued by the Russian government, five islands with areas ranging from 900 to 54, 500 square meters were revealed. The territorial extensions were viewed in regions near the archipelagos of Nova Zembla and Terra de Francisco José by university student Marina Migunova while analyzing satellite images of the site in 2016.

Confirmed this year by the Northern Fleet Integrated Expedition hydrographic group, which had already found approximately 30 new islands in research conducted between 2015 and 2018, the finding is the result of the strong thawing action caused by the sharp rise in temperature in the Arctic Circle.

According to the group, the islands that had probably been swallowed by ice were again exposed due to the high temperature variations that the place has been experiencing, especially in recent years, reaching 34.8 ° C (94.6 ° F) on 26 December. July 2019 - something unimaginable for the region. On site only, ice mass loss doubled from 2011 to 2015 compared to previous years. According to the team, similar phenomena must continue to happen, caused especially by the unbridled intervention of the human being in nature.
