The death toll from Super Typhoon Haiyan's passage through the Philippines is estimated to be as high as 10, 000, but officials are still struggling to assess the destruction and size of this tragedy.

Early reports from the region report that the coastal town of Tacloban has been completely devastated, with houses completely destroyed, trees and poles torn and wreckage everywhere.

In this scenario, hundreds of bodies have already been seen in the middle of the street by an aviation agency in the country. At all times, corpses are found and the official death toll continues to rise - these are cases of drowning, landslides and collapsing houses and buildings. According to CNN, no city building withstood the force of the wind.

With gusting winds of 315 km / h, Haiyan is considered one of the strongest typhoons to reach a land area. Ranked in category five, the highest on the Saffir-Simpson scale, the super typhoon passed through the Philippines on Friday morning.

Tropical storms and typhoons are common in the region. A year ago, Bopha also left a trail of destruction in the Philippines, killing at least 1, 800 people and leaving several people missing.

Haiyan's strength and intensity, however, surpasses the most dramatic weather events ever recorded in history. To understand the dimension of this super typhoon, check below some images recorded by satellites that reveal the monstrosity of the phenomenon.
