More bizarre foods that are considered delicacies around the world

As you know, it is not everywhere that the typical dishes consist of - super-calm and nutritious - “rice and beans”, and here in Mega Curioso we already post several articles about foods beyond the strange ones that are consumed around the world.

For recently we come across an article published by the folks at io9 with some appetizing delicacies that could be served at a banquet worthy of a horror movie. In fact, the dishes you are about to check out are sure to make the most delicate stomachs complain. Prepared?

This dish consists of roasting goat or groundhog meat inside the animal's own skin using super hot stones.

Also known as “centenary eggs”, the preparation of this delicacy consists of preserving goose, duck or chicken eggs for several weeks - or even months - in a mixture of lime, rice starch, salt, ashes and clay. Have you ever imagined the smell of it?

3 - Smalahove

Origin: Norway

This traditional Norwegian dish - also known by the names smalehovud or skjelte - consists of what you saw in the picture itself: a smoked and then cooked sheep's head served whole. Well, almost whole, because sometimes the animal's brain is removed before preparation.

4 - Fried Blood

Origin: Hungary

Usually eaten for breakfast, it is a dish made from fresh beef fried with onion and pepper. To start your day nicely!

5 - Tuna Eyes

Origin: Japan

Apparently, tuna eyes are a popular delicacy among the Japanese, and they say the taste is very similar to that of squid. There are those who prefer to devour them fried with garlic and soy sauce, others like them cooked, but there are also those who taste this same raw delicacy, so as not to miss the experience of swallowing the gelatinous meleca that surrounds the eyes.

6 - Blood Pancakes

Origin: Scandinavia

Although they appear to be made of chocolate, the above pancakes - called veriohukainen in Finland and blodplättar in Sweden - are made from a mixture of pork blood, butter, onion, milk, rye flour and molasses. Hmm...

7 - Kiviak

Greenland

If the description of this delicacy doesn't turn your stomach around, you certainly deserve a prize! These are between 300 and 500 small birds placed intact inside the body of a seal, which is then closed and sealed with fat and covered with a pile of stones for a period of three to 18 months. So after all the little birds have fermented inside, just open the seal carcass and taste the raw birds. Delicious!

8 - Bat Soup

Origin: Micronesia

Enjoyed in Palau, this beautiful Soup is made with fruit-eating bats - as if that detail made the dish less bizarre! - which are cooked live in boiling milk.
