Meteor creates strong explosion and illuminates Finland's night sky

Last Thursday (16), a meteor passing through Lapland in northern Finland turned night into day! The flash was spotted by the residents and captured by a security camera. It does not yet know, however, whether the celestial body actually exploded in the atmosphere or even reached the ground, becoming in this case a meteorite.

The event was so strong that it has been reported to have even been seen in Russia and Norway. According to Tony Bateman, who owns an agency that takes tourists to the northern lights and made the most impressive video of the phenomenon, the explosion was extremely strong, causing the house to shake. Check out:

The meteor is believed to have crossed the sky of the tiny town of Inari at 6:40 pm local time. The place is quite isolated and has only 500 inhabitants. Although impressive, the entry of meteors into the earth's atmosphere is quite common, with thousands of fragments burning every year forming what we popularly call “falling stars”.

But every ten years or so a larger meteorite hits the earth, usually in isolated regions. What fell in Russia in 2013 was an exception: it caused destruction and injured several people, but it is an extremely rare case. Also check out another video showing last week's meteorite:
