China's subways will incorporate biometric facial recognition system

It is no longer surprising that China is implementing systems to monitor the activity of all its citizens. Some time ago, China implemented a system of citizen credit - known as Social Credit - based on reliability, such a service allows sanctions to its citizens with several measures, including not being able to use trains or airplanes. In addition, there is also a network of cameras equipped with the world's largest facial recognition system, including police wearing glasses with this feature.

For some it is espionage, but for the government it is nothing more than a measure of greater control. What we do know is that now this technology reaches the subways of the most important cities in the country: Beijing and Shanghai.

According to reports, by the end of the year Beijing will introduce a biometric tracking system known as "bio-ID", which consists of thousands of cameras across the length of subway stations as well as their wagons. In addition to a facial recognition system and palm scanner, users would no longer have to buy tickets, as everything would be automatic. For the government the tool will increase efficiency and reduce bottlenecks in major seasons during peak hours.

It is worth mentioning that in Shanghai handheld scanners have been used since last year in some subway stations, and now it intends to incorporate the face recognition camera system. According to those responsible for the system, scanners are able to capture the palm of a hand and compare it to a huge database in seconds.

For the Chinese government, the tool will increase efficiency and reduce bottlenecks in major seasons during peak hours. Although many people are concerned about this type of monitoring, which for many seems to be the birth of a large surveillance system.
