Nestlé explains higher cost of Easter eggs compared to normal bars

Nestlé has given an interview to justify the much higher price of Easter eggs than traditional candy bars. The explanation would have been prompted by a campaign that spread across Facebook comparing a 500 gram egg and a 170 gram bar (pictured above), causing the anger of Brazilian consumers. By the time this news was published, the image had been shared more than 36, 000 times.

In the interview, which was granted to Época Negócios magazine, Nestlé corrected the price suggestions published on Facebook (the egg would cost R $ 46.19, while the bar would come out for R $ 4.69) and explained its reasons for the difference, which involve team expansion, manual packaging and differentiated transportation. Read the full Nestlé note:

Easter eggs are more expensive when compared to a candy bar of the same weight because their cost composition is differentiated, as they are products designed not only for traditional consumption, but for gift and enchantment. Its production and distribution involves a number of specific needs, such as the hiring of temporary labor, development of special packaging, manual packaging process, storage and special transportation, among others. In any case, traditional product options remain available as a lower-priced alternative with no time-related readjustment.

Controversial Easter Egg

Another controversy over Easter eggs involved Lacta's Bis + Xtra Chocolate. The product is being withdrawn from the market by Procon-RJ, considering that packaging would be an incentive to bullying.
