The right way to sit for long periods without affecting your health

While sitting in an office may be your dream consumer and the reality of millions of people around the world, we need to understand that this often implies certain health problems.

Obviously, when talking about health and working while sitting, the recommendation is that from time to time the person get up and take a walk - if they can stretch a little, then even better.

Even if moving a little already makes a positive difference in your health, you need to pay attention to one key factor: posture. It can be responsible for the appearance or not of muscle pain, poor blood circulation and even vision problems.

Posture is key

If you spend most of your day sitting, you don't have to panic. Business Insider taught a way of sitting that is certified by doctors, so it costs nothing to try to learn too, right?

This ideal position is to sit more on the edge of the chair and, to your amazement, not to rest your back on the backrest. Then leave the spine erect, always trying to maintain the natural curvature of the spine as long as possible. Calm down: It's not to be in that position constantly, but for a few seconds from time to time.

Your ideal position when sitting in a chair should be with your spine aligned - this is what ensures that the blood circulates correctly throughout your body and that you do not feel pain at the end of the day. It is critical that your body weight is evenly distributed, which means you should not “tip over” to a specific side.

Your legs should not be uncrossed and your knees should be angled equally. For added comfort, adjust the height of your chair so that your elbows rest on the table or on the chair arms. Shoulders should be relaxed - if you use wheelchairs, when you turn around, rotate the entire chair, not just half your body.

Taking all these precautions is not easy, but gradually we can try to improve our posture. This ensures that our joints, ligaments and bones and muscles stay healthy and pain free at the end of the day. What's more, proper posture makes you look like a good professional in terms of body language and, psychologically speaking, feel more energetic and willing.
