The 9 Greatest Records of 2012

The world did not end with 2012, so those who broke some weird record during the period can boast of their deeds to the rest of the world. So, check out the list of nine quite unusual world records set by the site Design Taxi.

1. The largest chocolate sculpture in the world

Qzina's professional confectioners set a new record by creating the world's largest chocolate sculpture. Weighing 8, 200 kilos, the piece was inspired by a Mayan temple, due to the important role this civilization played in the origins of chocolate.

It took 400 hours to build this sculpture at a ratio of 1:30 to the original temple. The sculpture would be destroyed on December 21, along with the alleged end of the world. Unfortunately, we found no mention of the realization of this promise on the internet.

2. The world's meatiest sandwich

Do you like to eat meat? Well, this sandwich is not just for those who like a steak or another on the plate, but for those who live to delight in that food. British chef Tristan Welch has created a snack that is 63.5 inches high, 60 inches wide and weighs 12.7 pounds.

Inside are 41 different types of meat, including ham, salami, chorizo and sausages. The sandwich was made for the TV show “Man Vs. Food Nation, ”where host Adam Richman proposes to some people to cook a food challenge for him.

3. The largest mural ever made with coffee beans

As a child, many of us would create artwork by sticking crepe paper balls onto a drawing. It took patience and a lot of willpower to complete this task. And as much as some of us hated it, the hard work is nowhere near what Russian sculptor Arkady Kim did: he built a 30-square-meter panel of roasted coffee beans glued one by one.

The piece weighs about 180 kg and far exceeds the previous record, which weighed only 39 pounds and had been created by the Albanian Saimir Strati.

4. First clip made with Instagram

Mexican band “The Plastics Revolution” has earned the title of being the first in the world to make a music video using just Instagram. In total, 1, 905 photos were taken with the app. San Francisco artist Arturo Perez Jr. was responsible for the animation of stop-motion images. Check out the result above.

5. The world's largest QR Code

How about a QR Code large enough to require a helicopter to scan it? This is the record held by Kraay Family Farm in Canada. Measuring 29, 000 square meters and made within a cornfield, this code is fully functional and bears the title of the world's largest QR Code.

And if you were curious, know that the QR Code takes the photographer to the family site, which builds custom mazes for those who have a large garden at home.

6. The most expensive photographic lens in the world

Sheikh Saud Bin Mohammed Al-Thani of Qatar is the happy owner of the most expensive photographic lens in the world: a fully customized Leica SPO-Telyt-R 1: 5.6 / 1600mm that cost a trifle of $ 2.06 million (about R $ 4.22 million).

The lens has a body 1.2 meters long and 42 centimeters wide and weighs 60 pounds, requiring a very sturdy tripod for use. The equipment came packaged in a very special case: a luxury car from Mercedes-Benz.

7. World's First Crochet Guerrilla Artist

Some urban artists are tired of graffiti. Now what you get is crocheting to decorate trees, poles, cars and whatever else is on the streets. The forerunner of this movement is Polish artist Agatha Oleksiak, who goes by the nickname Olek.

Living in New York, the artist does not forgive even the most iconic monuments, such as the Wall Street bull, decorating everything with her psychedelic and colorful art.

8. The first edible helium balloon

Forget the advice not to play with food. If it's up to the heads of Chicago's Alinea restaurant, that's the best way to eat helium and get the voice of "Alvin and the Chipmunks." This is due to the fact that in the establishment, the gas is served in a fully edible balloon made of sugar.

To eat it, just place your lips on the balloon and swallow the gas, making it wither and leaving a sugary flavor in your mouth.

9. The largest mohawk in the world

Punks from around the world can try, but only Japanese stylist Kazuhiro Watanabe has the biggest mohawk in the world. The hairstyle is 1.13 meters tall and takes about two hours to complete. To fix the hair you need three cans of spray fixer plus a pot of gel.

More complicated than keeping such a hair should be to walk through the doors of the house or use public transportation without breaking the mohawk.
