It seems, but it's not: have you ever seen an albino zebra?

Zoe, the zebra in the image above, extremely rare and known to be the world's only captive albino specimen, was not actually born with the curious genetic condition, characterized by the total or partial absence of skin pigmentation, albinism.

Despite all the fame, according to the Three Ring Ranch Animal Sanctuary, where Zoe lives, she suffers from amelanosis, a disease also known as vitiligo, which causes skin depigmentation and blemishes. If it were really albino, the zebra would be completely white, would have reddened eyes and would not be able to distinguish any stripe in its coat.

What's more, in animals, suffering from such a condition does not make them special. Quite the opposite! Having a different color - in Zoe's case, having gold instead of black stripes - makes the animal stand out in the herd, making it an easy target for predators.
