Pilot sleeps in cabin and forgets to land at airport

Have you ever slept on the bus or subway and woken up a few stops away from where you should have got off? This is very common but usually happens with passenger. In Australia, this has just happened to a pilot who slept in the cabin and flew 46 km beyond where he should have landed.

The case took place on November 8, but was only reported now. The name of the pilot was kept confidential by the authorities, but it is known that he was alone inside the aircraft that departed from Devonport, Tasmania, to King Island. The 250-kilometer route ended up gaining almost 100 kilometers more (round trip) due to the man's nap, which left the plane being guided on autopilot.

The American-made Piper Navajo PA-31 aircraft approached the destination without making any contact with King Island traffic operators. Several attempts at communication were ignored by the handsome sleeper as he flew over his landing site and continued straight toward the sea. The incident happened around 6:30 am.

Vortex Air, which is responsible for the flight and the aircraft, explains that after the mess, the pilot was able to return and land safely at his destination. Nevertheless, an investigation is being conducted to determine potential penalties for the pilot and the company.
