Loyalty Proof: Burger King Distributes Big Macs For Free To Customers

Here's a curious - and dangerous - way to test someone's loyalty! According to the Advertising Age website, the people at Burger King decided to find out who the real fans were and who were the "sellers" offering Big Macs to customers, the sandwiches of their archrival, McDonald's.

If you happen to be in the gang of sold fans, you will be sad to know that the “loyalty test” did not occur here in Brazil, but in Norway. The quiz was part of a marketing campaign organized by DIST Creative to stimulate social engagement between the restaurant chain and the public, and targeted customers who liked the Burger King Facebook page.

But do not think that those who accepted the Big Mac for free did not have to pay in some way for the betrayal. Those who chose to receive the enemy snack had to accept the condition not to participate in a new Burger King fanpage on Facebook and, in addition to receiving the Big Mac voucher, also received a formal farewell letter.

With the proof, the diner network found that many of the fans were effectively "sold" and, as punishment, they were banned from the fanpage for all eternity. In addition, Burger King also found that many of the fake admirers were responsible for posting derogatory comments about the restaurant chain on the social network.

As a result, approximately 30, 000 fans were lost. On the other hand, according to Burger King, the roughly 10, 000 who enjoyed the new Facebook fanpage are truly loyal to the network and interact much more actively and positively. And you, reader, what do you think of this strategy to filter out who is a real fan of who is sold? Do you think this marketing action would work here in Brazil? Be sure to tell us in the comments!
