The statue was placed in Immigrant Square, right in the center of the city, in the 1940s. “We are committed and respectful of cultural, ethnic and religious diversity because we stand for a more democratic and tolerant society. Both hate speech and acts that vilify the faith of others must be repudiated and fought so that we can live in the best civilizing values of humanity, equality and fraternity, ”criticized the city of São Leopoldo in a statement.
