Airport photo series reveals how unique each person is

Mustafa Çankaya is a photographer and works at Turkey's largest international airport, Atatürk, located in the country's capital, Istanbul. Every day, he sees thousands of people of different cultures and nationalities coming and going from the city, and this inspired him to create a photo series with a surprising proposal.

In this essay, the Turk decided to portray the existing plurality in the world and show how each human being holds an incredible singularity. "The person I decide to shoot has to be different in some way. It could be the hairstyle or the dress, but more importantly the atmosphere between me and the participant, " he told Bored Panda.

According to the photographer, the objective is to organize an exhibition with portraits of people from 100 different countries - so far, 117 individuals from 77 nationalities have been clicked. Here are some of them and the story each has to tell:

1. Nicole from Ukraine

To the photographer, Nicole said to be a tattoo artist in the city of Odessa, Ukraine. She was starting a European tour to present her work.

2. Kavinthida from Thailand

The girl had taken the holidays to see Denmark, and in this record she was waiting in Istanbul for a flight back to her home country.

3. Idris from Nigeria

The young man in the image below, according to the photographer, is a Nigerian fashion designer. He was waiting for a flight to New York in the United States.

4. Ibrahim from Rwanda

"This is what happens when you meet a Rwandan dancer at the airport, " described Çankaya.

5. Jacob from Sweden

Jacob is a medical student in Sweden and was on his way to South Sudan - a nation with one of the lowest human development rates in the world - with a group of international students.

6. Freya from Scotland

Freya studies humanities at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. She was waiting in Istanbul for a flight to Kenya, where she will have a student exchange.

7. Shayma from Kuwait

A medical student in Malta, Shayma was waiting for a flight to the Greek capital of Athens where she will volunteer at a refugee camp.

8. Sebastian from Poland

This guy's last adventure was trekking on a mountain of the Pamir mountain range in Tajikistan. It took 8 days to reach the summit of Korzhenevskaya peak, situated at 7, 100 meters above sea level.

9. Barkinado from Senegal

This Senegalese painter was awaiting shipment to France, where he will make an exhibition in the city of La Motte-Servolex.

10. Bash from Lebanon

Bash was coming back from the Burning Man music festival - one of the hottest songs around today. Beside him, wrapped in a black cape, is a percussion instrument called the djembe, a kind of drum from West Africa.

11. Jussi from Finland

This guy owns a tattoo parlor in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. He met photographer Mustafa Çankaya before leaving for Africa, where he will take a long trip through the continent's forests.

12. Ilya from Russia

Ilya Varlamov is a well-known Russian blogger and was recording a video for his YouTube channel as he was approached by the Turkish photographer.

13. Simon from Taiwan

Simon Cheng works as a photographer and was on his way to northern Iraq to document the departure of refugees from the country to the Old Continent.
