See about 3 million bats going hunting in Malaysia

If you like to travel around the world but are afraid of bats, we already anticipate that you should cross out the island of Borneo from any tourist itinerary you want to make in Southeast Asia. In the Malay part of the island (Borneo is divided between three nations: Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia), there is a group of caves where no less than 3 million of these flying mammals inhabit.

The video you see above, made in Mulu National Park, shows all of these animals coming out of the lair in large groups to hunt just before dark, which they do every night. However, even at such an impressive number, this does not prevent the bats themselves from serving as game for the birds of prey that inhabit the region.

As a result, they fly in large groups and completely erratically to baffle their predators and lessen their chances of turning to dinner while searching for their own food - which is usually insects. Seen from afar, the various flocks of flying bats look like strips of cloth being carried by a current in yet another magnificent spectacle of nature, but it must surely be horrifying to some people.
