See how Sao Paulo, Paris and Los Angeles grew over the centuries

Urban growth in the world's major cities has often occurred in a disorganized and unplanned way - except in a few cases. With this in mind, the people of New York University produced a project called the "Urbanization Project, " characterized by visibly demonstrating how some of the world's cities have grown over the centuries.

The animations are quite simple, as if watercolors paints were played sequentially and formed urban conglomerates over the decades. For better viewing, the years are separated by color, so we can better see how these cities expand. Who knows, if we had a kilometer next to the images we could better understand how cities grow. Three cities were chosen by the project, check out:

Paris:

We have been following the city's growth since 1800, when the capital's forms were more symmetrical and structured, giving way to the gigantic urban growth that has taken place over the last 200 years.

Sao Paulo:

The largest city in Brazil was also planned at the beginning, as we can see in the animation. However, thanks to the large disordered growth we can see, especially after 1960, that the outskirts of São Paulo were completely occupied by the population.

Los Angeles:

The City of Angels has one of the strangest growth patterns, as several urban centers are created over the decades and then swallowed up by the conglomerate that became the city.
