Do you know which is the largest highway on the planet?

Ever wonder what is the longest highway in the world? It exists, and as much as it is not a single road, but a cluster of routes that span several countries on the west coast of the Americas, it is considered the largest highway in the world, called the Pan American Highway. With a total of 48, 000 kilometers, it divides into numerous paths from northern Alaska to the southern tip of Argentina in the city of Ushuaia.

The only time the highway actually stops is at the Panama-Colombia border - a stretch of approximately 80 kilometers of forests called the DariƩn Gap, which has not been cleared to create a connecting road. However, there are optional paths leading to the main highway. With the exception of this stretch, the highway connects various territories of nations in truly continental proportions.

At certain locations along the gigantic route, the road is easily identified as the Panamerican Highway, especially in Peru. However, in other locations, such as Canada and the United States, there is no official designation of the road system, even though the road is directly connected with the others.

The highway is well known for not being uniform, as it runs through countries with varied economic situations. Driving along the original route can be considered a real challenge for adventurers on duty, as geographical conditions change greatly from one region to another - you can find paths with deserts, forests, mountains and snow-filled aerials. Even some of the passages can only be passed at certain times of the year, as they depend on the behavior of the weather.

Construction of the Pan-American Highway began in 1937, when the countries through which the road passes signed an agreement to fully connect, and each country's portion of the road was the responsibility of the nations themselves (so there are better finished sections and others do not).

In 2006, long-distance driver Kevin Sanders broke the world record of least time to travel the entire route on the Pan American Highway - it took 34 days. So, would you venture to drive down this gigantic road?
