10 strange deaths linked to fast food chains

Fatalities can happen anywhere, don't they? Even in the world's best known fast food restaurants. Seeing several accidents involving these networks, the class of the site List Verse decided to gather the occurrences of stranger deaths in this area. It is noteworthy that none was caused by the food choices of the places.

Most happened inside or in the parking lot of fast-food restaurants, with only one death on the list occurring in a chocolate factory.

All had a tragic end, but served as a warning to companies to pay more attention to safety and to correct maintenance issues that could cause serious accidents. Some, however, were caused by people's recklessness or inattention, who had no idea what might happen. Check it out below:

1 - Killer Plaque

A woman from the town of North Platte, Nebraska, died when she was hit hard by a giant Taco Bell sign (in the large image above).

49-year-old Diana Durre was with her husband in his truck in the parking lot of one of the chain's restaurants when gusting winds hit the 23-meter-high plaque. Her husband suffered only minor injuries while his dogs, which were in the back of the truck, were unharmed.

2 - Death in chocolate

This is the only occurrence on the list that is not related to a fast food chain, but to a chocolate factory, where a tragic and curious fact occurred. Any resemblance to the movie "The Fantastic Chocolate Factory" is purely coincidental, considering that the result is not funny at all.

In 2009, worker Vincent Smith Jr. crashed into a giant tank of hot chocolate and was killed when hit by one of the mixing blades. The crash occurred at the Lyons & Sons chocolate factory in Pennsylvania, while Vincent fell off a platform while loading solid food into a huge melting vessel. His coworkers didn't have time to save him.

3 - Cold End

This one went cold never to leave. In 2011, a man was found dead inside a Taco Bell refrigerator in Spokane, Washington.

According to employee reports, the 42-year-old man got into the refrigerator and locked himself inside. However, his death was particularly strange, as there were no signs of violence or trauma to his body, but neither did he appear to have died from exposure to the cold. The reason became a mystery there.

4 - Hit by car

Nervous to have hit another car in the parking lot of one of the Burger King restaurants in Miami, a woman got out of her vehicle to check the damage she had done to the back. However, the car moved as she checked the damage, as she left it in reverse gear and the door open, which hit her violently. According to authorities, she died at the scene.

5 - Carbon dioxide leakage

An 80-year-old woman was found unconscious and could not resist the intoxication of a CO2 leak caused by a hose (used for gas carbonation) from one of McDonald's soda machines in Georgia. The carbon dioxide leak generated a dangerous buildup, causing the poisoning of ten more people.

6 - Mortal Punch

A fight inside a Detroit-based Burger King resulted in the death of a man with only one fatal punch. In 2010, a 67-year-old homeless man entered the chain's restaurant and began to arrange confusion, threatening to pierce employees with a knife. One of the workers was trying to defend himself and hit him with a single punch, which killed him instantly.

7 - Misconduct

In late 2012, a drunk man was hit by a car in front of an Ohio Taco Bell. He had been detained by two police officers and then released while still drunk in the restaurant parking lot.

What was discovered - according to a car video - is that, after releasing the man without the necessary procedures, the two officers were joking about his staggering state when the man was hit by a car and died. Both officers were found guilty and were fined for leaving office.

8 - Unhappy toy

The seemingly happy snack can hold unpleasant or even fatal surprises. A tragic event happened in 1999 when a baby was suffocated by a small toy from the Burger King Pokemon collection. The "Pokeball" covered the passage of air in the mouth and nose of the one year old, preventing him from breathing. As a result, the company was forced to collect more than 25 million Pokeballs, making it one of the most expensive product recalls in history.

9 - Hamburger to the end

David S. Kime Jr. died at 88 after eating Burger King all his life. Nevertheless, it is not known exactly what was the cause of his death. Interestingly enough was his funeral: as a tribute to his love for the fast food chain, before he died he asked for his funeral to be sponsored by a special guest, Burger King.

The man was such a fan of Whopper Jr. and so well-known at his neighborhood Burger King that the restaurant made 40 sandwiches for the funeral, plus one to be placed next to his body in the coffin. About the client, the network manager said: “It's good to know that he was a loyal customer to the end.” That's nice, isn't it?

10 - Achieving the goal

A Croatian McDonald's affiliate got the news from the newspapers when its employees continued to serve normally after a customer got sick and fell dead on the floor in front of the cashier.

It was reported that a white napkin was placed on the woman's face after failed attempts at resuscitation. Then the body was dragged to a corner and the restaurant staff continued to prepare and serve food to the other customers. The body stayed for an hour and a half at the restaurant until the local IML car arrived.
