10 songs that came first in dreams

The art of writing good lyrics and turning them into hit songs is not in the general domain. A lot of people just prefer to put together repeated onomatopoeia and syllables that become choruses that stick to our heads but make no sense at all.

Anyone who thinks that making a song is too complicated may even be right. However, certain songs came "ready" in the dreams of the artists. Paul McCartney, for example, dreamed of "Yesterday" in 1965 and made it one of the Beatles' greatest symbols. In addition to this, check out 10 more songs that were successful after their authors had dreamed of them.

1. “(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction” - The Rolling Stones

Keith Richards dreamed of the sensational riff and the words "I can't get no satisfaction". He woke up, recorded the tape on a cassette and went back to sleep. Music has become one of the greatest icons of the Rolling Stones career.

2. “Purple Haze” - Jimi Hendrix

One of the biggest rock and roll representatives, "Purple Haze" was allegedly dreamed by Hendrix after he read Philip Jose Farmer's sci-fi book "Night of Light." In the dream, the singer walked over the sea until he was covered by a purple mist.

3. Let It Be - The Beatles

"Yesterday" was not the only Beatles hit that came up in a dream: Paul McCartney would have dreamed that his mother, who died when he was 14, came by to say "let it be."

4. “The Prophet's Song” - Queen

While treating hepatitis with a contaminated needle, Brian May had very feverish dreams. In one of them came The Prophet's Song.

5. “Every Breath You Take” - The Police

Sting would have woken up with the excerpt “every breath you take, I'll be watching you” in the middle of the night and written The Police's most famous song in just 30 minutes.

6. “It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)” - REM

Michael Stipe dreamed of a party he had gone to at the age of 19, but in his daydreams everyone had initials LB in the name, such as Lester Bangs and Leonard Bernstein quoted in the song. In addition, the only foods of the party and the dream were cheesecake and jelly beans (“Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, BOOM”).

7. “The River of Dreams” - Billy Joel

The name of Joel's 1993 album title track came after he woke up from a dream where he sang excerpts of what would become "The River of Dreams."

8. “The Man Comes Around” - Johnny Cash

The track released in 2002 began to be drafted many years earlier, when Cash dreamed that he was meeting with Queen Elizabeth II of England, who would have told him that he was a "thorn tree caught in a whirlwind." Years later, he would have read something similar in the Bible book of Revelation, remembering the dream and working on the song.

9. Enterlude - The Killers

Lead singer Brandon Flowers would have dreamed of Kurt Cobain singing like Bob Dylan on a ship. The song Cobain sang became "Enterlude" in the arrangement of The Killers.

10. "If Only for a Night" - Florence and the Machine

During a German tour, singer Florence Welch would have dreamed of her late grandmother, who gave her life advice. The advice became music.
