15 historical photos of people with deformities beyond strangers

In the past, as you know, there was far more prejudice towards people with deformities than today. Condemned by society, in order to make a living, many of these individuals worked in circuses, which presented them to the public as "freaks", and some of these characters even became very famous.

One particular photographer, Charles Eisenmann - who owned a studio in New York - became a big fan of these "artists" and, in addition to photographing ordinary people, also clicked thousands of people with deformities between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. However, as you will see in the following portraits, Eisenmann treated his models with dignity and respect, feelings that are reflected in the photos. Check out:
