5 Disasters That Happened Because Someone Fooled

All actions have reactions, that is a fact. As much as the initial action is stupid, thoughtless, joking or even unintentional, the consequences of these actions can be very real and tragic.

And that's exactly what we're going to talk about here today at Mega Curious: people who caused accidents or tragedies for the weirdest reasons you can imagine. That's when we ask ourselves, guys, what's the need for this? So get ready and let's go:

1 - A giant fire unintentionally wanting

In July 2013, Sadie Renee Johnson threw some sticks with fire in the woods beside the city road where she lives, Warm Springs, Oregon. The fire spread rapidly and went completely out of control, reaching an area of 51, 000 acres and costing $ 8 million to contain. Sadie Johnson was arrested after posting a photo of the fire on her Facebook profile that read: Did you enjoy my fire?

When the girl confessed to the crime, she told police she started the fire because her fire brigade friends were bored, but she didn't think the fire would cause so much trouble. Better that they get bored, right?

2 - Flooding cities not to see the woman

James R. Scott was a married and unhappy man. However, instead of filing for divorce, as people with common sense often do, Scott decided to do something brilliant to avoid finding his wife: removing sandbags from the Mississippi River dikes to cause a flood to keep him from crossing the bridge home. . In 1993, there was only one bridge over 120 kilometers that ran over the river, separating the states of Illinois and Missouri.

As Scott began to remove the supporting sandbags, the river gave way far more than expected, reaching a point of no return and flooding other areas as well - even the two-state bridge completely gave way. The event became known as the Great Flood of 1993 and brought millionaire damage to surrounding cities. Today, he is serving a life sentence in the United States for this crime.

3 - A stupid wreck

You should probably remember the wreck of the Italian cruise ship Costa Concordia. This sad event, which resulted in the deaths of 32 people and millions of dollars in damage, was due to a stupid mistake by Captain Francesco Schettino (as he later said at the trial). To impress his girlfriend, the captain decided to enter a perimeter of shallow, rocky waters, claiming he had already traveled the course.

He did not inform the crew of the change of course and deactivated the alarms. The result we already know, and today Schettino is serving 16 years in Italy.

4 - The revitalization that did not work

Even when we are well-meaning things can go very, very wrong. You should probably remember the story of the old woman who wanted to restore an image of Jesus Christ, painted by artist Elias Garcia in 1930, and which caused a real disaster. Cecilia Giménez did not have any training to do the restoration, but the devout lady believed she could make the painting as beautiful as before.

The result we already know: the image has gone viral from the internet popping up on various humor sites and social networks. Giménez was embarrassed and isolated after the event, unwilling to give interviews, but today the case is not remembered as a real tragedy - there are even people visiting the museum where the painting is just to see the new version of the work.

5 - Congestion and death from a kitten

Michael James Schneider just wanted to be a good example when he wanted to save a cat that crossed Florida's main highway. However, as he braked sharply to try to save the cat and prevent other cars from colliding with him, as he himself said he wanted to do, a much larger accident occurred.

Schneider suffered several injuries from the impact, also causing the death of a 75-year-old lady as he maneuvered the other vehicles to a halt as well. In addition to the old woman's death and many bruises on her body, Schneider secured a congestion of more than 10 kilometers. The cat did not survive.
