Studies into the influence of color on our senses are often done - and many people already use shades in environments according to the sensation they want to pass, such as calm or agitation. Now research from the Polytechnic University of Valencia in partnership with Oxford University has shown that the color of a mug can totally change the taste of a drink, for better or worse.

The experience involved 57 participants and the drink chosen was hot chocolate. Those involved had to try the same chocolate in glasses with four different external colors (cream, red, orange and white), the inside being always white.

Curious Results

Finally, all volunteers thought the hot chocolate served in the orange and cream colored cups was better than the others. Some even added that the chocolate served in the cream-colored glass tasted even sweeter and more aromatic. The discovery again shows the power of color in our senses, especially in taste.

According to one of the study's authors, Betina Piqueras-Fiszman, there is no fixed rule to say which color enhances which food. But the influence of color on food is real and companies should pay more attention to the container, which has much more potential than we thought.
