Titanic's true love story

The story of Jack and Rose was very touching, but let's now tell the story of a royal couple: Isidor and Ida Straus. They were born in Germany and married in their mid-20s and had seven children. According to reports from their friends, the two were a truly passionate couple and did not cling together.

Isidor was a great businessman; He was the co-owner, along with his brother, of the famous Macy's department store and had to travel a lot on business. If Ida could not accompany him, they would exchange letters during the trip whenever possible.

You may find this quite normal, after all, these are common demonstrations of a loving couple. However, in the early twentieth century, it was relatively rare. Many marriages took place for convenience, especially among wealthy people like Isidor and Ida. And their final show of love on the Titanic was even rarer.

The wreck

Isidor and Ida spent some time in Europe in 1912 and then decided to return to the United States aboard the RMS Titanic on their maiden voyage.

As many people already know, there were only boats for half of the people on board, due to a matter of “comfort” inside the deck; In case of a problem, the first to be saved would be first class members: women and children, then men. If space was left, then members of other classes would be allocated.

When the ship collided with the iceberg and began moving out of it, Isidor and Ida were first class members, so she already had her place in a dinghy; Luckily, they offered a place in the same boat for Isidor to accompany his wife. But he declined and said it would be no exception.

Given this, Ida then decided that she would not be in the boat either, because she would not be separated from her husband: "As we live, we will die together."

They later found Isidor's body, but Ida was never found.
