Where's the asteroid? Sanctuary accident motivates massacre of 292 crocodiles

We're kind of speechless here on the news we're going to tell, so let's report the case and let you think in the comments. According to Kara Goldfarb of All That Is Interesting, nearly 300 crocodiles - including endangered species - were brutally killed in a sanctuary in Indonesia by a group of angry people.

The reason? According to some sources, about a week before the massacre, a man from the community - a guy identified as Sugito - approached the place where the reptiles lived to mow the bush and prepare the area so that their little flock could graze. But in the middle of the activity, he came across a crocodile and was attacked by the animal.

Revenge

A sanctuary official would have heard cries for help, but when he found Sugito, the man was already dead. Then, after the burial of the deceased - which, as it turns out, had nothing to be snooping around - around 600 people gathered, dragged the crocodiles out of the water and killed no fewer than 292 specimens with knife blows, axes., hammers and anything they found on.

Among the animals, officials said they found everything from almost 2 meters long to 50 cm pups, and the mob made no distinction between reptiles, butchering even species considered endangered. According to Kara, the authorities were called in and 40 police arrived at the sanctuary, but unfortunately were unable to control the situation.

In the end, the killing ended up with a pile of dead and bloody crocodiles, and as the action is considered illegal in Indonesia, participants in the massacre may have problems with the law, as there are witnesses and many have already been recognized.

A representative of a local natural resources conservation agency said the sanctuary has been licensed to breed endangered saltwater species as well as New Guinea crocodiles ( Crocodylus novaeguineae ) since 2013, and to obtain the necessary documents, a number of requirements had to be met. Those responsible for the site must keep the area protected and well signposted, but the man who died should not have invaded the space, so the case is being investigated.
