Napoleon's hat goes to auction and could reach $ 6.5 million

One of 19 hats certified to belong to French Emperor Napoleon will be auctioned this weekend in Fontainebleau, near Paris. The item is part of the collection of a thousand lots assembled by Louis II of Monaco (1870-1949), Prince Albert's great-grandmother, preserved at the Monaco Napoleonic Souvenir Museum.

The auction has been stirring for weeks lovers of the Napoleonic figure, which has many admirers. The hat is valued at between 300, 000 and 400, 000 euros, but could reach up to two million, according to experts. In 15 years of reign, Napoleon wore about 120 hats, almost all manufactured by Poupard de Paris, according to expert Jean-Claude Dey.
