With YouTube tutorials, Brazilian builds 2-story house alone

Systems analyst Evandro Klimpel Balmant, 33, built a 200-square-meter, two-story house on his own without ever having any experience in construction, engineering or even architecture.

He learned everything from tutorials on YouTube and only had the help of his father and a builder to assemble the concrete structure and the roof, as there was no way to do these parts slowly or alone.

According Balmant told the Tribuna do Paraná, the economy with labor reached R $ 150 thousand. In this way, he was able to build the dream house with 50% of what was originally budgeted with professionals in the field. Balmant's home is located in Almirante Tamandaré, Greater Curitiba.

But how?

One of the decisions that facilitated the construction of the house was the fact that Balmant and his wife, Ane, bought ecological bricks made in Curitiba from recycled garbage. The material was a little more expensive than ordinary clay bricks, but they are easier to assemble as they fit together like Lego pieces.

If I used ordinary brick, I would have to tow, which would end up more expensive

These bricks also offer better sound and thermal insulation. As it is very cold in the region of the capital of Paraná during winter, the choice of this material came in handy. “If I used ordinary brick, I would have to tow, which would end up being more expensive and would be a job that I might not have been able to do on my own, ” he told Tribuna.

The idea of building the house alone, however, did not come out of the blue. The couple gained land from Ane's father while still living on rent in a noisy area of downtown Curitiba.

The initial goal was to make a wooden house to be a weekend getaway, but the work would not be so cheap either and would not last that long. “The wood does not have good thermal and acoustic insulation, catches easy fire, in 10 years the house is no longer very firm, the Eternit tile breaks in a hailstorm…”, he said.

Faced with this impasse, Balmant decided to build a house to live in, but did not want to pay the $ 12, 000 of labor just for the foundation of the new residence. “Even if we put my 13th and my wife's together, it wouldn't pay, ” he says. That's when the analyst decided to appeal to YouTube and was able to build his foundation based on the content available on the internet.

If I can do the foundation, I can do the rest

Given the success of the foundation, which also had advice from family engineers and architects, he decided to look for more tutorials on YouTube and do it himself. “If I can do the foundation, I can do the rest, ” he explained.

After almost all the house was completed, Balmant decided to pay a tile maker to install the porcelain tile so that no grosser faults would be left. The couple have lived in the house for about a year, but have not yet been able to put the finishing touches on the top floor because of the tight budget.
