Study shows how many people have died looking for the 'perfect selfie'

The obsession with 15 minutes of fame has reached unimaginable levels in the age of social media. We have all heard of cases where people behind the “perfect selfie”, or one that attracts many looks and likes, end up taking too much risk and losing their lives. Apparently, there were no isolated cases, and the first statistics on the subject indicated that at least 259 people have died for this reason since 2011.

The number was published by researchers at the All India Institute of Medical Science in a scientific journal. The survey was based on official reports released worldwide from October 2011 to November 2017. It was also noted that most cases occurred in India, followed by Russia, the United States and Pakistan. Regarding the profile of the victims of this type of accident, a very significant part (around 72%) is composed of men under 30 years of age.

Among the dangerous photos that led to death are selfies at great heights, such as bridges or buildings (in the case of Russian Andrey Retrovsky from the image above, who after falling fame with images in the heights, one day fell from a nine-story building) . There are also those who come too close to dangerous or wild animals and also teenagers who played with their parents' gun.
