Cute little bird, isn't it? But he is practically a zombie!

When you look at a bird like this one in the picture, it's common to find the animal cute, sweet or, for those who don't even care about animals, you may find it just normal. However, despite having a beautiful appearance, this bird has a very macabre side, as it is considered a true brain-eating zombie.

(Remember that the idea that zombies eat brains came from the 1985 movie The Return of the Living Dead, though not in other productions.)

The bird in question is the great tit, which is relatively abundant mainly in the forests of Asia and northern Africa. While most of its diet is made up of leaves, seeds and small insects, the bird takes time to become a killing machine, attacking other smaller birds as well as bats, according to scientific reports.

Once the other animals are attacked, the zombie titmouse goes straight to the point: the juicy brain of the poor prey. They use the force of their beaks to pierce the heads of animals and make their feast. In the image below it is possible to see more than ten birds that were killed by a great tit, having their brains destroyed and also other body parts in some of them.

There are several records of attacks from these birds to animals that are their favorite targets. In 1958, a case was reported in which a titmouse was seen flying away with a smaller bird known as Little Star, which had been attacked by a peck on the back of its head. His eyes were torn out and his skull mangled.

"The great tit attacks small and weak birds, dividing their skulls with their powerful beaks to reach their brains. They are also known to do the same with bats, " as ornithologist Howard Saunders had already noted in 1899.

Although this zombie bird likes to devour the brains of smaller, bat-like birds, not spontaneously attacking humans, it's best to stay far away if you see one of those around.
