Illusionist posts amazing tiled magic video [video]

The curious video above, posted on YouTube by Norberto Jansenson, shows how he adds and eliminates tile squares without - at least apparently - changing the shape or number of pieces that make up the picture. If you thought the stunt could only be a magic trick, well ... maybe the fact that Jansenson is a professional illusionist explains a lot.

The magician does not reveal the secret - obviously - but we can see that he always repeats the same movements, sliding the blocks along diagonal and straight lines. However, the trick seems to be based on the same principle applied in an optical illusion known as the "lost square paradox" created in the 1950s by a magician named Paul Curry.

So it is very likely that "magic" comes down to math - for a change! - although it's impossible to say for sure, since we don't know if the video was edited in any way or not. Anyway, we here in the newsroom of Mega Curious have some bets on this mystery, but do you, the reader, also have any guesses?
