Jurassic World Dinosaur Movements Were Made by Real People

If you've ever been to theaters to check out Jurassic World: The Dinosaur Worlds, you must have been impressed with the performance of reptiles throughout the movie. They really move in a “natural” and largely scary way. Dennis Muren of Industrial Light & Magic, the company responsible for the animation of the work, explained in the video above how this was achieved.

Muren comments that real people made these moves and had their performance digitally captured by cameras and other sensors. Then the work of digital creation and animation was done on top of that. Basically, almost every reptilian movement you saw in the movie was first performed by a human.

However, Muren comments that this was not an easy job, as many of the people involved in creating these movements could not stand for long because of the strange positions they had to perform.

The advantage of this, however, is that the movements of the dinosaurs became very complex and realistic, something an animator could never do with such richness of detail.
