10 other events that happened in 1969 and turn 50

The year 1969 was so important that we divided the list of the remarkable events of the period - which now turn 50 - into three parts. This is the conclusion of the memories of this landmark end of the decade. Also check out the first and second part of this theme.

1. The Manson Family

Two years after being released from jail, Charles Manson started a group that became known as the Manson Family. Their most striking act was the murder of 5 people in the house of director Roman Polanski, including his wife Sharon Tate, 8 months pregnant at the time.

2. "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?"

Without much fanfare, CBS launched on Saturday morning, September 13, 1969, a cartoon that marked generations: "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" Fred, Daphne, Velma, Sausage and Scooby-Doo solved the craziest mysteries and became part of many people's childhoods.

3. Charles Burke Elbrick's Kidnapping

US Ambassador to Brazil, Charles Burke Elbrick, was kidnapped in September 1969 by members of the Brazilian far-left group called the Communist Dissent of Guanabara. The case was told in Fernando Gabeira's book, “What is it, mate?”, Who participated in the kidnapping. He also became an Oscar-nominated feature film for Best Foreign Film in 1998.

4. “Macunaíma”

Voted one of the 100 best Brazilian films of all time, “Macunaíma” adapted Mário de Andrade's work for theaters and featured Grande Otelo in the lead role.

5. Abbey Road

The 11th Beatles album, and the last to be recorded with the four together, was released in September 1969. The album cover is one of the most copied in history.

6. “That Hug”

The second most played song in Brazil in 1969 was released in August of that year. It was recorded a few months before Gilberto Gil went into exile in London and is regarded as one of the greatest symbols against the military dictatorship in the country.

7. Led Zepellin

The British band Led Zepellin was formed in 1968, but only in January 1969 released the first album, which bore the group's own name. The album featured classics such as "Dazed and Confused, " "Communication Breakdown, " "How Many More Times, " and "Black Mountain Side."

8. RMS Queen Elizabeth 2

The RMS Queen Elizabeth 2 luxury ocean liner was a landmark of world navigation and had its maiden voyage on May 2, 1969.

9. “The Sun-There-Si-Do Family”

One of the most successful sitcoms of his time, "The Sol-La-Si-Do Family" had five seasons that began airing in September 1969. Much of the show's success came after its end in 1975, through countless reruns.

10. Death of Carlos Marighella

Called "the number one enemy of the military dictatorship, " Marighella was a Brazilian politician and guerrilla who died in an ambush in Sao Paulo on November 4, 1969.
