How about drinking a whale beer to cool off?

Right here at Mega Curioso you may have already seen that there are very exotic flavored beers, such as the coffee drink, Hello Kitty's line of assorted fruits and the weird versions produced with oysters, bacon, seaweed, guacamole, curry, among others. others.

However, none of them are causing as much controversy as the beer recently announced by Steð, an Icelandic brewery. The drink was designed in partnership with the whaling company Hvalur and, as you may have already guessed by then, is made from whale meat.

The bottle has 330 ml and its alcohol content is 5.2%. According to the brewery, its product is very healthy, because whale meat is made up of a lot of protein and low fat, and its confection does not take sugar.

The beer was developed for the Thorrablot winter festival, which takes place annually in various cities across the country in tribute to the pagan gods of the local culture and this year will last from January 24 to February 22. Also, in the publication to publicize the new flavor of its portfolio, the brewery says that who drink it will feel a "true Viking".

Dagbjartur Ariliusson, owner of Steð, says that this particular product will only be marketed during the festival. But that did not prevent animal welfare organizations from harshly criticizing the initiative. Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC) has issued a note repudiating beer.

According to Vanessa Williams-Gray, one of the institution's leaders, “Demand for this type of meat is falling, with fewer people looking for it. Still, reducing a beautiful, sentient whale to a mere ingredient on a bottle label is as immoral and outrageous as you might think. ”

"The brewery may claim that this is just a new product with a short shelf life, but what is the price of the life of an endangered whale that could have lived 90 years?"
