SPFW ends and launches manifesto to President Dilma

The 33rd edition of the São Paulo Fashion Week (SPFW) ended on Saturday (16), at the Fundação Bienal building in São Paulo, after a marathon of 32 shows with the news for the summer season 2012/2013. At the Cavalera fashion show, which took place Saturday morning at a junkyard in Mooca, Sao Paulo, a group of designers led by Paulo Borges, creative director of SPFW asked President Dilma Rousseff for more attention to fashion. The purpose of the manifesto is to establish a communication channel with the federal government in order to create a development policy for the creative fashion industry. The proposal is to jointly enable the formulation of an economic policy that makes Brazilian fashion even more competitive. On the 26th, Paulo Borges and fashion designers will meet in São Paulo to define the points that will integrate the manifesto with claims of the sector and which should be presented to the president.

At the time of Rio + 20, sustainability, in all its pillars - economic, environmental, social and cultural - was the main theme of this edition of the event. With the motto "People Transform: Stories that Tell, " the SPFW reaffirmed the importance of knowledge and education to sustain. Curated by Marcelo Rosenbaum, the event presented pathways of the namesake project created and developed by the São Paulo architect and designer in the Várzea Queimada community, in the interior of Piauí, which resulted in the development of design products from carnauba straw and rubber. Fashion Week, as part of the "Contextualizing in Fashion" project, created through an agreement between Sebrae Nacional and IN-MOD (National Institute of Fashion and Design). This is one of the first results of the project that aims to inspire and qualify the Brazilian production of fashion design in the clothing, accessories and footwear segments, bringing new segments and regions of the country closer to the high added value design. Among the novelties of this edition were the return of Ronaldo Fraga, Paula Raia and Forum, and the premieres of Vitorino Campos and Têca by Helô Rocha. In this edition, SPFW received around 100, 000 visitors during the six-day event at the Bienal Foundation building.
