Thailand sets up fitness camp for law enforcement officials

Thai police have gained a powerful weapon against crime: the workout. Police stations across the country are sending their stubborn officers to a weight loss camp called Belly Destruction, held at the Central Police Training Center in Pak Chong City.

The goal is that, with intense physical activity, the weight of the officers is reduced. Each station will periodically send two to three police officers to the center, where they will work out, ride their bikes, and adopt a healthy, high-protein diet to eliminate as much fat as possible. The show was created after photos of overweight police officers caught the public's eye.

"There are a lot of problems if you're a fat cop, " said senior sergeant Major Sornpetch Chantarak, who is in charge of the new program's diet. "You work slow and slow, and that's unacceptable if you're an officer in charge of arresting criminals, because you have to be skilled and quick."

About 200 Thai police officers participated in the two-week Belly Destruction pilot, and the results encouraged the authorities to implement the program. According to reports, police weighing about 200 pounds managed to lose up to 60 pounds, while the slightly overweight, close to 80 pounds, lost up to 20 pounds. Those who participate in the training have a shaved head and need to exercise shirtless to focus on the project objective.

The population seems to support the initiative, especially on social networks. The photos posted on the Love Police Facebook page earn a lot of likes and comments, most of them with praise for the officers, for working hard to lose the extra weight. “It's good to lose weight. I always see cops drinking beer while on patrol. How can you catch criminals this way? ”Wrote a Facebook user.
