In addition to the traditional before and during wedding photos, Trash the Dress sessions have been a hit with brides. Different and unusual, the images captured in exotic sceneries please the couples and surprise the guests.

For those with the wedding date set and not yet aware of this trend in photography, now is the time to know how the session works to start planning a Trash the Dress. But if you have already decided to make these more than special photos, be sure to check out some tips on how to get organized on the day of the event.

To better explain where it came from and what the trend consists of, TodaEla spoke with Arnaldo Belotto, responsible for Studio 8 e Meio, in Curitiba. Also, you can check out the testimonial of Ana Paula Giacomitti Dos Santos, a Curitiba bride who made the Trash the Dress and recommends the experience.

What it is and where it came from

Much is said about Trash the Dress, but photos of couples dressed up in unusual places still surprise the most unsuspecting.

Arnaldo Belotto begins by explaining that the trend arose in the United States, being first developed through photography and, in a second moment, the video versions were gaining ground. The professional points out that the purpose of this style of work was "to make a creative and fun video days after the ceremony in places where the couple would never imagine going with the dress or the suit."

Originally, the term that baptizes the trend refers to the dirt, wear and damage that the bride's dress suffers during shooting and filming. After all, the proposal is to use it in different environments, creating a contrast between the elegance of the couple and the relaxation of the chosen space.

In the United States and Europe, brides take the style's name seriously and have fun while painting, soiling and tearing the dress. In Brazil, the trend has come lighter and the material that has been produced reveals lush scenery, sensual poses, but does not bring so much boldness in time to ruin the dress.

Trash the Dress's first national rehearsal was held in August 2008, and since then, demand has increased dramatically and the market has kept growing.

The differential of the proposal

It is important for the couple to keep in mind that a Trash the Dress rehearsal is quite different from a pre-wedding rehearsal or the photos that will be taken on the day of the ceremony. The person responsible for Studio 8 and Meio points out that going out of the box is the rule in this kind of work.

For this reason, instead of choosing a beautiful flower garden or a space with lush buildings, the idea is to venture to beaches, waterfalls, ruins and other destinations that result in images unlike anything you have ever seen. “The cool thing about Trash the Dress is that we can do anything from a junkyard to a restaurant kitchen. You have to think of aesthetically interesting places, but the couple would never imagine themselves there, ”says Belotto.

In this sense, when choosing the perfect place to do your photo shoot, the expert explains that it is not necessary to choose exactly a place that reflects the personality of the couple. “As it is a work with a very aesthetic appeal, sometimes going to a place where the couple does not have a relationship can be cool, ” he says.

The best moment

If the couple want to follow the premises of Trash the Dress, the session should be done right after the wedding. Arnaldo Belotto indicates that the best time is a few days after the ceremony, as soon as the couple returns from their honeymoon.

However, many have opted to hold the session before the wedding and take the opportunity to show the result to the guests during the reception. The advantage of this option is to have a differential for the wedding day, as well as finalize all preparations of the marriage along with the end of the party.

For those who prefer to keep the protocol, the advantage is to be less tense and nervous to take the pictures. After the wedding and the honeymoon, the newlyweds come back more relaxed and tend to loosen up more during the session. The result is photos that reflect the happiness and spontaneity of the couple.

Bride and groom and contractors must also be in tune so that everything goes as planned. “I think the best way to make anyone comfortable and have a good relationship. Before the day of the recording I think it takes some small meetings to talk and meet the couple. That way things get better on the day, ”says Belotto.

Production costs

Of course, the prices of this type of service will vary widely by professionals. Arnaldo Belotto tells us that the idea created by the couple can also influence labor costs. In general, the professional believes that a small production costs from 2 thousand reais. Already a session of Trash the Dress that is held in another city, therefore, requiring travel and travel, can cost about 3 thousand reais.

For the couple who have an organized budget, it is important to consider additional expenses such as buying or renting outfits, food, makeup and even lodging if they choose to photograph and film far away.

Testimonial From Who Made

Businesswoman Ana Paula Giacomitti Dos Santos held her Trash the Dress in mid-2012 and ensures that those who attend the session once will feel like doing it again.

Ana Paula tells us that she decided to do Trash the Dress because it is something different. The unusual photos and the fact that she was dressed as a bride, but being able to do whatever she wanted with the dress were also two features of the proposal that attracted the businesswoman.

To choose the professional, Ana Paula sought references from photographers who already worked with Trash the Dress. The bride says she identified with the photography style of the professional she hired to conduct her session. For her, this was an important factor, as other photographers didn't work with the style.

The chosen destination was Morretes, a quiet city on its way to the coast of the state of Paraná. As the bride would like to get in the water and the bride and groom agreed that the session would be held during the day, the photographer's suggestion was the perfect option. In addition to the photos, Ana Paula also chose to film the event.
Despite the cloudy day and cold water, Ana Paula fulfilled her wish to have the session in the water. She says she wet her dress, wet her hair, but it was worth the pain for the beautiful images that were captured.

Ana Paula and her fiance Renato Santos did the Trash the Dress before the wedding. The businesswoman says that the experience of producing and dressing before the date was enough to give a "chill in the belly" and advance the joy and emotion that would be experienced on the big day.

With the material ready on their wedding day, the grooms aired the video produced for their guests. The bride says that the reception of friends and family was very good and generated a great expectation: "A lot of people do not know Trash the Dress, so it is impressive because it is new, " she says.

Ana Paula concludes by saying that it is very exciting to make the photos and video and see the result later. According to her, the images captured are very different from traditional wedding photos. "I recommend. No one will regret it, ”she concludes.
