5 Places You Won't Want to Visit on Your Vacation

The school holidays of July have arrived and many people take advantage of this time of year to walk around and see different places. However, it is always important to plan well and think carefully when choosing your travel destination, as you will not want to embark on a borehole. So here are five places posted by the folks at BuzzFeed that you should not include in your script:

1 - The Pacific Dump

We have already published here in Mega Curioso a story about this place, located in the Pacific, between the coast of Hawaii and California. If you like sea and paradise beaches, it is best to avoid this region. It is estimated that this area - littered with plastic packaging, lost slippers, chemical sediment and all sorts of crap - is larger than the state of Texas, and doesn't offer very pleasant views of the local environment.

2 - Izu Islands

Take a look at the picture above and say if you would dare to spend the holidays in this place! It is a group of volcanic islands located near the coast of Japan, and the activity is so intense there that the inhabitants have had to be evacuated twice due to the very high concentration of toxic gases in the air. In fact, it is possible to smell sulfur constantly on the islands and people are forced to carry gas masks all the time.

3 - The Alnwick Poison Garden

For those who enjoy visiting flower gardens or gardens full of exotic plants, it is best to beware of the Alnwick Poison Garden. Located in the county of Northumberland, UK, it has a selection of seedlings that can kill - some of the specimens are so dangerous that they are kept protected by bars.

4 - Exclusion Zone

If you are ever traveling in Ukraine, this is a region you don't want to get lost in! This sinister area comprises a perimeter of just over 50 kilometers that demarcates the sites affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. It was created in 1986 and the entire local population was evacuated. To this day this area is heavily contaminated.

5 - St. Helena Island

If you like history, the name of the island above should sound familiar. After all, that was where Napoleon Bonaparte was deported and spent his last years. St. Helena is super-isolated - it is located almost halfway between Africa and South America - and has no airport. Therefore, the only way to get to or from there is by cargo ships passing through the region from time to time.
