The amazing transformation of 15 places over time

It took the world 4.5 billion years to take the form we know, but it only took a century for the landscape of the earth's crust to change radically. From an agrarian context - in which cities were distant from each other and communication was scarce, expensive and inaccessible - we have moved to a reality where everyone is connected, and the once poor and stagnant urbanization rate of the globe today seems totally unstoppable.

And to show the impact of globalization on the Earth's landscape, we turned to good old photography - which has also changed since it was invented. Through it, we can see that churches are no longer the tallest buildings in cities, and that, even when ravaged by wars and natural disasters, cities have always managed to rise and give new meanings to their spaces.
