Contraceptive May Change Women's Memory

Being there at the time of events does not guarantee that everyone involved will remember it in the same way. This is the thesis defended by the authors of an article published in the American journal Neurobiology of Learning and Memory. However, the focus of the research is on how the birth control pill can affect women's memory.

The reducing action of estrogen and progesterone, besides avoiding conception, affects a series of chemical reactions carried out by the left brain, the area responsible for recording important events related to emotional understanding. This makes women who use this type of medicine have more difficulty trying to remember logically.

Contrary to what it may seem, the pill does no harm to memory. It only changes the way events are perceived by the female brain. Researchers at the University of California have come to the conclusion that contraceptive users tend to remember the gist of events, while non-contraceptive users often list more details.

And you, how do you remember things?
