However, there are activities that require the most energy consumption - and below you can check out a list of 7 of the most “spendy” business types:
1 - Supermarkets
Among the business segments that use electricity the most to remain fully operational are supermarkets. Have you ever wondered how much such an establishment depends on electricity?
The operation of the boxes, perishable refrigerators, air conditioning and the security system are just some of the sectors that simply cease to function when the power supply is interrupted, which can cause serious damage.
To get an idea, according to industry representatives, the electricity bill is the second largest expense of some supermarket chains, even surpassing the rent. Therefore, the search for energy efficiency projects is also high in this type of business.
2 - Automobile Industry
According to the Energy Research Company (EPE) Monthly Energy Market Review, the auto industry leaves its opponents eating dust.
This is because the entire operation of a car manufacturer is conditioned to the perfect operation of machines beyond robust, whose weight is equivalent to tons, and this makes the demand for energy efficiency a constant in the industry.
Due to the high cost of the items produced, disruption or supply of low quality power can cause a number of significant losses. On the paint line, for example, according to the Nissan president, when there is any problem with the supply while the machine is running, it is necessary to pause the process and repaint all the cars on the production line.
3 - Hotel sector
The hotel sector is also on the list of businesses that use the most electricity in Brazil. It is even estimated that in most hotels and inns, spending occupies at least one of the top positions on the cost list of these establishments.
Just think of the amount of electronic equipment needed to serve all guests and keep everything running smoothly: air conditioning systems, kitchen equipment, televisions, showers, lighting, etc.
But it is not only spending that we are going to talk about here, it should also be mentioned that energy efficiency projects have been an important tool for maintaining the economy throughout the sector which, in some cases, achieve 60% reduction in the electricity bill.
4 - Metalworkers
The metallurgical segment is the second largest exporter of the national manufacturing industry, taken from a specific study on metallurgists in Brazil developed by the State University of Campinas.
But it is not only in this ranking that metallurgists gain a prominent position, since companies in the segment are also the ones that consume the most electricity in the country. In 2011, for example, 23.7% of all industrial sector consumption fell in the sector.
It is not possible to specify which areas of a metallurgist use the most energy, but overall the technology used in machinery throughout production accounts for a large chunk of that number.
5 - Bars and restaurants
The major bottleneck in electricity consumption in most establishments, especially in the food industry, is in refrigeration, so that 25% to 60% of the total energy consumed in these companies goes to the operation of refrigerators, refrigerators and freezers.
Keeping everything fresh in the food industry generally reflects directly on energy costs. However, still talking about cooling, there is another piece of equipment that freezes the value of the electricity bill up there: the air conditioner.
There is a growing search for alternatives to reduce the consumption of such equipment, such as using fans instead of air conditioning on cool days, avoiding unnecessarily opening refrigerator doors and so on.

At least 41% of electricity consumption in Brazil is used by companies, according to well-known data released by the National Confederation of Industry, CNI, and the plastic industry is also among those who use this most.
Anyway, it is important to understand that, despite the high cost, electricity is one of the factors that save a lot of money during the production process, due to automation and consequent increase in productivity.
7 - Hospitals
Hospitals and clinics are also on the list of businesses that most rely on electricity to function. Here, consumption is very high, especially due to the need to keep many equipment on at the same time focused on preserving lives.
And, as in other sectors already mentioned here in the list, the search for measures that enable the increase of energy efficiency is also increasing in hospitals. In this sense, it is important to note that some hospitals have already achieved up to 40% reduction in electricity bills.
