We met a Hunger Games scenario: President Snow's mansion

In October, we visited President Snow's mansion, which appears in the movie Hunger Games: On Fire . Its real name is Swan House, a historic home in the city of Atlanta, built in 1928. In this article, you can see some of the mansion scenarios used in the movie and see what they look like today. Plus, you get the inside scoop on some of the behind-the-scenes curiosities of the feature film.

Check out the following video, which brings more details of our visit:

Long before it became a famous setting for the second Hunger Games, Swan House was home to Edward H. Inman, the political leader and entrepreneur of several local companies. The mansion is set within a historic center, the Atlanta History Center, which houses other homes of well-known people, including Margaret Mitchell. In a residence near Swan House, this is where Mitchell wrote the book Gone with the Wind, which was later adapted for one of the greatest film classics.

But let's go back to Swan House, the reason for our visit to this historic center. The mansion served as one of several Hunger Games locations in the city of Atlanta. On our tour of the house, we found that the film's producers found the imposing residence while visiting the city looking for more locations for filming. By catching their eye on this beautiful historic mansion, they had no doubt: this was where they would film President Snow's house in the second franchise movie.

In addition to the curiosities we mentioned in the video, we discovered some more during our visit. One is that the entrance to the house is actually from the back. The façade that appears in the movie is for decoration only: the owners of the mansion would never answer anyone who knocked on the door through the Hunger Games characters. This was a custom of the time imported from the large Italian mansions.

Another curiosity was told by our tour guide, who was present behind the scenes of the Hunger Games filming : In Flames . He said that in one of the rehearsals Donald Sutherland sat in the dining room chair and instantly stepped into his character, speaking his lines with perfect conviction.

But there was one detail: the actor was still dressed in a dressing gown and had curlers in his hair - but he was nonetheless mashing the ruthless President Snow.

On this visit, we also found that quite tasty and smelly foods were made by the production for the party scenes, being exposed to the weather outside the house with insects huddling over them over the days until the recordings were finalized.

In the end, this food appears in a few moments of the movie.

After visiting all of the mansion's rooms - many of which were not used in the movie - we reached the end of the tour on the balcony where President Snow gave his speech during the big party that appears in the movie.

And get ready: The Third Hunger Games, which opens this weekend in a number of countries, including Brazil, will also have some scenes filmed in this house. So keep an eye out for her when you check out the movie.
