Designer makes illustrations about the effect of drugs on the human body

In partnership with a psychology project at Duke University of North Carolina in the United States, designer Meaghan Li has done something quite unusual to illustrate the effect of various drugs on the human brain - figuratively, of course. The goal was to design various posters that represented (as only a few strokes and quite directly) the effects of these drugs on the human organism.

The illustrations are very simple and objective. The designer says she opted for a more minimalist approach that forced her to distill complex concepts in just a few lines and a few forms. According to the designer, while some posters are quite figurative (such as cocaine), there are those that can be understood as literals - such as the Heroine poster (which features a slowly fading ghost).

Meaghan Li says that the illustration that most caught people's attention was that of Marijuana. Li says that the purpose of this particular drawing was to show a kind of melting and melting since a certain part of the image runs off the original edge. When asked about reasons for starting such a graphic project, she commented that graphic design is an artistic expression and a creative outlet - a practice that should not be subject to social taboos and moral distress.
