Severed hand is saved after being attached to ankle

Xiao Wei had his hand cut off while working on industrial machinery at a factory in Changde, south-central China. Although reimplantation was a possibility, doctors considered it unfeasible to continue the procedure while Wei had not recovered from other injuries resulting from the accident.

“I was in shock and astonished at the scene while some co-workers turned off the machine, retrieved my hand and took me to the hospital, ” he told the British Metro website.

The solution found seemed to come out of some 80's trash movie, but it does seem to have worked. The Chinese man had his hand tied at the ankle, remaining in place for a month, "patiently" awaiting recovery.

Doctors believe that Wei can fully recover the functions of the hand.
