7 Strange Stories Of People Who Wanted To Amputate A Body Member

People who undergo body limb amputation surgeries, such as legs and arms, should always live for a long period of recovery to get used to (and adapt to) new body conditions. It is a traumatic process that also requires a high degree of patient acceptance to conform to the changes.

There are several reasons that lead doctors to amputate certain parts of the body, such as illness, accidents, infections, disabilities, among many other cases. Be that as it may, the procedure is not desired by anyone - or so you thought so far. Oddee listed some strange cases of people who amputated (or wanted to amputate) body members for the most bizarre reasons. You can check them out below:

1 - The woman who was born with a clubfoot and wanted to amputate her leg to wear high heels

Mariah Serrano is from the United States and was born with a sprained foot, something that can be corrected with some medical procedures. However, after five surgical procedures, Serrano did not have his feet properly aligned and consequently could never wear high heels, sandals, sneakers and other shoes correctly.

The foot did not improve over time. So Mariah Serrano decided on something drastic: to amputate the deficient leg and use a prosthesis to wear the shoes she always wanted. After the decision, Serrano went through the operation and today is much happier with the prosthesis than with the old foot, currently working in the New York fashion market (a dream that once seemed impossible due to the sprained limb).

2 - The woman with healthy legs who wanted to amputate them not to suffer with varicose veins

Some people's priorities are really strange. Many women worry about varicose veins on their legs as they age, but for 39-year-old Claire Jones, the glimpse of possible varicose veins is far more terrifying.

Jones asked her doctor to have both legs amputated so she would not suffer from the development of varicose veins. The woman said that the fear of getting her veins stuck out was such that several panic attacks occurred - and she found staying in the wheelchair more bearable. The doctor, of course, prevented any surgical procedure, and today Jones has therapy to accept his condition.

3 - The young woman who wants to be amputated to participate in the Paralympic Games

A student from the United Kingdom had one of her legs amputated due to ill health and today wants her other leg to be amputated so she can participate in the Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games in 2016. Her name is Danielle Bradshaw and she You want to be a Paralympic athlete - which can only happen if you don't have both legs. So far, we don't know if Danielle's dream will come true.

4 - The healthy woman who wants to go to the wheelchair

Chloe Jennings-White, 58, suffers from IDB (Body Identity Dysfunction) and does not recognize her own legs as part of her body. As absurd as it sounds to anyone, her desire is to become paraplegic - and since she was a teenager Chole has injured herself several times and on purpose.

In 2010, she found an English doctor who agreed to operate on her to make her paraplegic. However, Chloe could not afford the surgery costs. Even with both functional legs, the woman has been doing her best to live in a wheelchair, no matter how much her neighbors and those around her criticize her daily.

5 - The man who decided to amputate his own legs

Karl (fictitious name) also has the same disorder as Chloe Jennings-White, the BIID, and so has never identified with the legs of his body. He himself triggered the process of leg amputation. As a trained chemist, Karl put his legs into a bucket of dry ice with special chemicals and left his legs there, freezing.

He spent more than six hours with ice on his legs (feeding the bucket with other substances) and, after all this time, Karl went to the nearest hospital to request the removal of the legs that would be necrotized. The doctor, seeing the state of the limbs, had no choice but to amputate them.

6 - The 11-year-old boy who had his dream of amputating his leg realized

Amit Vigoda wanted to amputate one of his legs due to a rare bone problem he suffers. Sudden movements could not be made by him, as the delicate bones of one leg fractured internally with the slightest actions and caused severe pain.

After numerous fractures and much suffering, Amit chose to completely get rid of the leg - a decision that was completely supported by his parents. Today, the 11-year-old has had the surgery and is much happier without his leg than if he was with it. He dreams of being an athlete just like people who also have amputated legs.

7 - The singer who had one leg amputated and has a stylish prosthesis

Viktoria Modesta is a model and pop singer who has a very peculiar trait: one of her legs was amputated. Modesta was born one of the twisted legs and always had difficulty walking, which affected his interaction with other people. After undergoing more than 15 surgeries that attempted to align her leg with her hip, Modesta made the difficult decision to prefer to remove the deficient limb completely.

The result was unexpected because today Modesta considers herself freer than before. Not to mention that being amputated has become one of its main features. Modesta makes use of different stylish and futuristic prostheses that catch the eye and match the singer and model she is.
