Star Wars: Fans Will Build R2-D2 for Episode VII

Have you ever wondered how cool if you could work on producing a movie you're already a fan of? Seems a bit impossible, doesn't it? This is exactly what will happen to people obsessed with the history of Star Wars - and the way they were hired can be considered astonishing.

It all started when Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was visiting a fan conference of Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and the entire Jedi universe in Germany. There was a duo - made up of Lee Towersey and Oliver Steeples - who are part of an English builders club for R2-D2, the little Star Wars robot.

Just kidding it worked. Very right

Kennedy took pictures with them and admired their replicas, in which Steeples joked that he and his partner were available for job offers. After a while, Lucasfilm people contacted them to hire fans, the recommendation coming directly from the company's president.

As you might already imagine, the duo's main job is to build the R2-D2 that will be used in the filming of episode VII - a movie that is due to debut only in 2015. Also, it is their job to create other less important droids for set different scenes, for example.

They seem to know what they are doing.

If you doubt Towersey and Steeples 'skills, they claim they have over ten years' experience practicing so they know what to do and also what to avoid. An example of this is the simple fact that they have already been hired by other companies to build Star Wars commercials.

Despite being excited about the whole situation and hoping to attract more members to their own club, they both know they need to improve the mechanics of their creations and are working on it. However, if Kathleen Kennedy herself has already approved and admired their work, the quality must be really high, right?
