Is there anything nicer than spitting fire in bullet time? [video]

There are people who don't like clowns, and there are those who are scared to see a trapeze artist plummeting in the middle of a stunt, but if there's one thing that virtually everyone should love to watch when going to the circus is the fire-breathing performance. But what if you could see every detail of every flare in midair?

This is the purpose of the video above, produced and edited by Mitch Martinez, cinematographer in love with the bullet time effect, created for the Matrix trilogy films. It utilized an array of 48 semi-circle DSLR cameras shooting simultaneously, plus an Epic RED filming at 120 fps and a GH4 recording at 96 fps.

No animation in computer graphics or visual effects was used to enhance the images, which were just arranged to give the impression of video motion. The above effect, however, has a slight difference from the authentic bullet time, which is that artists do not move while moving cameras.

This is because, as has been said, all the photos were taken at the same time, not sequentially, which would show the spitters moving, albeit very slowly. Obviously, this does not detract from the beauty of the images, which really seem to turn fire into a living creature for a split second.
