Treatment for burns can be done with stem cell gun

Using stem cells, the pistol can regenerate new skin by simply using a small piece of the patient's epidermis.

To help recover from burn patients, researchers have developed a kind of stem cell gun that can increase healing speed, reduce the risk of infection, pain and even prevent scarring. Stem cell work brings hope to those who need healing for burns, whether on the skin or in the future, even on internal organs.

The startup RenovaCare is responsible for the device, called SkinGun. Using stem cells, the pistol can regenerate new skin by simply using a small piece of the patient's epidermis. The stem cells are then isolated from the piece that is about the size of a card seal and then mixed in a water solution to be sprayed on wounds and burns.

The treatment is still under test but has been used in about 72 patients in the United States and Germany. The process takes about 90 minutes and the subjects had complete recovery, with severe burns healed without leaving marks. The next step for RenovaCare is to get the necessary permissions so that SkinGun can be used freely in hospitals.
