Triplets born five years old in England

The couple Kevin and Nicola Brightey spent 15 long years in a constant and costly battle to have children. Attempts began shortly after their marriage in August 1998 when Nicola discovered that she had scarred fallopian tubes - a disastrous result of a peritonitis that had affected her at age 15. Well, that just makes the couple's triplets story even more amazing.

But there is something even more surprising: although brothers James and Daniel were born in December 2008, the third of the twins, Elizabeth, would be born just 5 years later - although all three were conceived on the same day. The miracle, however, has a name: in vitro fertilization.

R $ 80 thousand in treatments

According to the Daily Mail website, Kevin and Nicola have long tried to conceive a child by conventional standards. However, once the fallopian tubes were prevented, hope shifted to in vitro fertilization (in which the egg is fertilized by a sperm outside the woman's body).

The price of treatment, however, was another impediment. Thus, a joint economy of three years was required, as revealed by the couple to the said vehicle, in order to add an amount equivalent to $ 80, 000.

However, the first attempt turned out not to succeed. “The cycle failed completely, and I produced only one egg, which was really devastating, ” said Nicola. Nevertheless, a second attempt would eventually generate 14 eggs, eight of which were fertilized, two of which were returned to the uterus - thus leaving six fertilized eggs in the clinic's freezer.

“We wanted one more brother for the twins”

Despite concerns usually related to IVF, the twins James and Daniel were born healthy in November 2008. Shortly thereafter, however, Kevin and Nicola decided that they would like to give the twins a brother, and then the couple returned to the clinic.

“We really wanted to try to conceive another baby; we thought it would help the twins develop their social skills by having another sibling to consider, ”Nicola told the Daily Mail.

Thus, after one more failed attempt - the embryo did not survive - one of the six embryos left in the clinic on the second attempt eventually found its way into Nicola's womb. “We didn't try with two because we already had twins, ” she says. “Surprisingly, I found out I was pregnant, which was very exciting.”

“They looked like three peas in a pod”

Thus, approximately five years after the birth of the brothers, Elizabeth was conceived at Peterborough City Hospital. Although it did not share Nicola's belly with Daniel and James - thus not being twin, at least in the strict sense - the egg that originated Elizabeth was, in fact, conceived on the same day.

"Elizabeth was identical to boys when they were born - they looked like three peas in a pod, " Nicola jokes, making sure she feels like "the luckiest mother in the world."
