Elon Musk capsule not used in boy rescue in Thailand

The morning of Tuesday marked the end of the rescue operation of a football team of 12 boys and their coach who were trapped in a cave in Thailand. According to the Associated Press news agency, the local navy confirmed that they were all removed after a three-day scuba diving action.

But the rescue operation ended up not using the capsule created by Elon Musk (from Tesla, SpaceX and Boring Company) that was announced by him over the weekend and flown to the cave. Musk tweeted that it was on site and left the miniature submarine ready just in case. The capsule was named Wild Boars, in honor of the boys' team.

Despite the efforts, the equipment was not used because it was not considered suitable for the situation.

Even with efforts, the equipment was not used because it was not considered suitable for the situation. "Although his technology is good and sophisticated, he is not practical for this mission, " said Narongsak Osatanakorn, who is responsible for coordinating the rescue operation, without giving further details.

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha also praised the businessman's initiative, saying he was "very grateful" and "personally thrilled" that Musk had traveled to the country with his "ingenious solution." The capsule is made of rocket parts, has room for a child and is light enough to be carried by two divers.

Capsule may end up in space

Since announcing the capsule, Musk has made it clear that he would continue to work on the project even if it wasn't used to rescue the boys. According to the businessman, miniature submarines can be used for other risk situations. Two models were created like the ones previously seen and one replica that is inflatable, so that it was easier to handle in tight passages.

Another possibility is that they will serve as a prototype for something that could be used on future SpaceX manned vehicles. "With some modifications, it [the submarine] could also function as a space escape capsule, " said Musk.
