They discovered this skull - and several Inca tomb artifacts in Bolivia

It is not very common to hear about archaeological discoveries made in Bolivia - but it was there that a team of researchers came across very interesting things! According to Chiara Giordano of the Independent news portal, archaeologists at the Universidad Mayor de San Andres found a rich selection of tomb artifacts in a quarry about 12 miles from the Bolivian capital, La Paz, and identified more than 100 skeletons in place, as well as a collection of objects from the Inca civilization.

Interesting Finds

Scientists say the cemetery was actually found a few months ago, but the team decided to keep the discovery a secret to ensure the safety of the tombs and prevent them from becoming unwanted visitors. As reported now, the pieces rescued at the site are over 500 years old and, along with the bones, were found hundreds of Aymara objects, but also more than 30 recipients that the Incas used in mortuary rituals - unprecedented finds in the country.

And we talked about skeletons, right? Among them, archaeologists have found some with elongated skulls - such as the following image - which are probably from individuals who belonged to the elite and went through the process of modifying their heads to differentiate themselves from others. With regard to Inca containers, although it is quite uncommon to find these objects in Bolivia (most commonly found in Peru), the researchers explained that these people conquered the region in the 15th century, so the presence of artifacts is nothing. Out of this world.

In addition to containers - and skeletons - archaeologists have also found jewelry such as bracelets, brooches and necklaces, as well as personal utensils, including combs, hair ornaments and decorative objects, many of them made of bronze. These pieces all suggest that the tombs housed people from all walks of life, and the fact that there are items from the Inca culture and Aymara culture in the same place indicates that there was an interesting coexistence between the two that needs to be better understood.

Researchers are expected to bring the skeletons and artifacts for analysis and study, as there are many unsolved mysteries about the Incan conquest period, but all items collected should be returned to a museum in Viacha, Bolivia.
